VIRTUAL WORKSHOP (February 18 – 19, 2021 -1:00 pm– 4:30 pm CDT 6 hrs of CEUs provided over 2 days)
The rituals of hope and unity that helped people endure the beginning stage of the pandemic have now given way to exhaustion and frustration, resulting in “pandemic fatigue.” This lingering distress is compounded by the added complexities of living in daunting times filled with social injustice, economic hardship, isolation, and divided beliefs. This extraordinary socio-political context has come at a high cost. Many people have made huge sacrifices to cope with the seemingly never-ending destructive influence and lingering distress.
There is a dire need for collaborative, competency-oriented and compassionate responses to these extraordinary challenges and dwindling resources. Brief Narrative Therapy privileges people’s local knowledge, emphasizing abilities rather than deficits, possibilities rather than limitations and what is strong, rather than what is wrong in people.
Restoring hope and personal choice with people who are consumed by despair can be challenging. You will be introduced to the key elements of narrative practices for reconsidering hope, restoring choice, and supporting people in reclaiming their sense of personal agency. You will learn questions that invite people to reconnect with their strongly held values and purposes. You will be introduced to particular conversational maps that help chart useful therapeutic conversations that produce energy, meaning, and purpose.
Clear presentation, digitally recorded examples, and experiential exercises will create a context for a comprehensive and energizing training experience. There will be an emphasis on micro-skill development and applying these skills to your practice immediately.
Participants will be introduced to:
• An innovative framework for constructing a storyline that captures significance and meaning in conversations.
• Invitational questions that generate meaning, hope, and purpose.
• Micro-maps for organizing generative therapeutic conversations.
• The circulation and influence of language.
• Ways to engage with pivotal events and stepping back practices for capturing moment-to-moment change in therapy
• Skills for de-centered and influential therapist positioning
• How to offer timely service and offer people the help they need when they need it.
